Our last book club meeting was about the book “Go Set a Watchman” by Harper Lee. It is a novel about a young woman who returns to her hometown in Alabama and confronts disturbing truths about her family and community. Set in the 1950s, she must deal with segregation and racism. She confronts her father, and although the experience is painful, she accepts the world as not perfect,
but is also asked to be a “watchman” to make a difference. We compared racist views in the South then to different racist views that divide our country today.
The next book is “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. It is a historical novel that looks at female nurses and their experiences in the Vietnam War and the years after. It is a tribute to the women who served in Vietnam, whose stories and sacrifices have historically been overlooked.
Our next book club meeting will be on Sunday, January 11th, at 12:30 in the TBT library.
Feel free to bring lunch or a snack.
