Our last Book Club meeting was about the book “The Maid” by Nita Prose. It is a story about a young woman who works as a maid in a luxury hotel. One day she discovers a hotel guest dead in his bed. Real criminals are aware of her abnormal behavior and mannerisms (probably autism) and use this knowledge to frame her for his murder. With the help of her friends she is acquitted of the crime.
We discussed how people really do take advantage of people with disabilities. We also talked about special programs available in this area for people with autism.
Our next book is “Dinners With Ruth: A Memoir on the Power of Friendships” by Nina Totenberg. It is an excellent perspective on establishing friendships among strong, intelligent professional women of different backgrounds yet having mutual challenges in a world dominated by men. The rights and privileges we continue to enjoy today, which are under assault, are a direct result of those women who stood up to discrimination and censorship. FYI the Ruth in this book is Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
Our next meeting will be on Sunday October 20th at 12:30 in the TBT library.
